Love your body
We are much saddened by the death of the wonderful Anita Roddick on the 10th September. Working with Anita was an inspiration - and Liberated Theatre aim to continue to carry on her legacy in our writing and creative work. On the night she died, the Evening Standard West End Final news sheet paid a timely and fitting tribute - a powerful reminder of what can be achieved by passion and determination. Amazing lady. “The Ruby 'Love Your Body' campaign was my favourite work”

Kiki was a copywriter and art director in advertising for 20 years, working at some of the hottest shops in London and New York. She became a consultant for the Body Shop after her outspoken views on women's issues and wrote and performed 'OBSESSSION FOR WOMEN' which sold out at the IPA and went on tour around advertising colleges. With Host Universal, she created and produced the Full Voice magazine, inspiring women all over the world to 'Love Your Body', and breathed life into their most famous icon, Ruby. The Body Shop are sponsoring Babooshka. The 40+ year old woman (Anna 4 - played by Kiki) 'is trapped in a bad relationship', has been the victim of domestic violence - this is to continue the work on this very important issue that the Body Shop have already started. 75% of women diet yet 95% of diets don't work. Cosmetic industry promises eternal youth in a pot. Fashion dictates a size 10 as average - in fact it's a 16. The media promotes the waif as a sensual aspirational roll model. Kiki's best friend Sophie Dickson died of anorexia in 2001, so for Kiki it has become an obsession to stop women sacrificing their lives for a pipe dream. Host's new thinking identifies self-esteem as the skeleton of the psyche and the pillar of a girl's confidence. Without self-esteem there is no well being, without either, there is no defence against the onslaught of media and fashion imagery that drives some girls to bulimia and anorexia. The role of self-esteem is explored as a potential informing principle for the Body Shop brand as an 'issue' that could relate to all Body Shop consumers the world over and at every level of franchise activity. A map of self-esteem identifies 5 levels of potentially negative impact and the Hostscope develops naturally from here. HOSTSCOPES: They usually come in threes but not always. This Hostscope presented the 5 layers of self-esteem as a Russian Doll, with each layer decorated in the appropriate photographic material. At the epicentre exists 'Self', on the outer doll exists lifestyle, between those two lies the story of self-esteem that led to the evolution of Ruby, a flame-haired size 16 barbie doll with guts and character and an edition of 'Full Voice', Anita Roddick's campaigning magazine, that no one has forgotten. |
